About The Great Maze
From Our Family to Yours
Hi there, and welcome to The Great Maze. We’re Kathy and Mark Johnson, and we’re so glad you’re here.
What started as a fun idea has turned into something truly special. When we built our first maze, we just wanted to create a place where families could come together, laugh a little louder, and make memories that would last a lifetime. Over the years, this dream of ours has grown into a seasonal tradition that we feel so honored to share with our community.
Every inch of this experience is built, managed, and cared for by our family. From setting up the maze to running it each day to taking it all down when it’s time to say goodbye to fall, it’s all done by us. There are no outside crews, no behind-the-scenes teams. It’s just our family, working side by side to create something meaningful for yours.
This year, we’re especially excited to introduce a new cedar plank maze. It’s sturdy, beautiful, allergy-friendly, and a big step forward for us. We’re even going for a Guinness World Record, and we can’t wait for you to be part of that journey.
We’re always dreaming up new ideas and ways to make your visit even better, and we love hearing from families who tell us how much fun they had. That’s what it’s all about for us. Creating joy, building community, and sharing something that’s been built with love and care.
We’re truly grateful for the support we’ve received from this community. Whether it’s your first visit or your tenth, thank you for showing up, for cheering us on, and for making The Great Maze a place where families come together year after year.
With heartfelt thanks,
Kathy and Mark Johnson

About The Maze
The Great Maze – Reimagined for the Ultimate Fall Adventure
Welcome to The Great Maze, now built with beautiful white cedar plank walls for an elevated, long-lasting, and even more immersive maze experience.
For years, we were known for our towering straw bale maze. This season, we’re thrilled to unveil a new design featuring 7-foot cedar walls that still deliver the same epic challenge and family fun, just with a few exciting upgrades. Bonus: We’re aiming to break a Guinness World Record as the largest cedar wood maze in the world, right here in Fargo, ND.
Why The Change?
Switching from straw to cedar allows us to offer:
- Cleaner, allergy-friendly experiences (no hay fever here)
- A safer, fire-resistant setup
- Sustainability and long-term durability
- The same thrilling difficulty with more comfort for all
Don’t worry, we’re keeping the cozy vibes alive with a straw façade at the front entrance. It’s perfect for fall photos and brings all the festive energy you’ve come to expect.
A Maze That’s Built to Challenge
Spanning 1–2 acres, The Great Maze is located in the West Acres Mall parking lot in Fargo, ND. This is one of the most accessible fall attractions around. With solid cedar walls and narrow, winding pathways, this isn’t your average corn maze. You can’t see through the walls or cut through the stalks, which means no shortcuts.
Despite its smaller footprint, the average time to complete the maze is 45 minutes to an hour. It offers the same challenge as a traditional corn maze with just a fraction of the walking distance.
Family Friendly and Fully Accessible
The Great Maze is built on a paved surface, making it stroller and wheelchair friendly. No mud, no mess, just fun for all ages. Handi-cap accessible
After Dark: The Maze Gets Even Trickier
When the sun goes down, the adventure ramps up. Navigate the maze by moonlight or with one of our glowing LED foam wands for a spooky, immersive night maze experience that’s perfect for brave families, teens, and thrill-seekers.
Pumpkins, Photos and Fall Fun
Before or after the maze, visit our beautiful pumpkin patch, filled with pumpkins, squash, gourds, carving kits, and festive fall decor. While you’re here, take advantage of our photo ops. From rustic backdrops to seasonal scenes, our staff is happy to help capture the perfect family photo.
This isn’t just a maze. It’s a fall tradition in the making. Come explore, get lost, and make memories that last all season long at The Great Maze.
